Another Holiday Robbery Takes Place in Brattleboro

No Comments 04 January 2011

Another armed robbery was added to the list in Brattleboro Sunday.

The Canal St. Rite Aid was held up at around 4 p.m. by a man demanding OxyContin. He then drove away from the store with an unknown amount of the pills. The suspect is described as in his late teens to early 20s, 6 feet tall, slender build and weighing around 150-170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark cap, coat and pants. The store closed up early and police scoured the neighborhood in hopes of finding the man.

Police are offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the man’s arrest. Anyone with information pertaining to the robbery is asked to contact the Brattleboro Police Department at 802-257-7950, or the TIPSLINE at 802-251-8188.

This is just one of a few robberies that have occurred over the holidays in Brattleboro – the Canal St. Circle K and the Colonial Motel on Putney were robbed, however the suspect in those robberies was caught. Continuing the futility on Canal St., the Mobil gas station and Sonny’s Getty were also robbed in late December.

Again, anyone with information on any of these crimes is urged to contact the Brattleboro Police Department at 802-257-7950, or the TIPSLINE at 802-251-8188.

Local Cabot Creamery Offers Healthy Tips For the Holidays

No Comments 16 December 2010

So many of us feel stressed this time of year.  Life can reach a fever pitch during the holidays and expectations can run particularly high for New Year’s Eve.  This might be the perfect year for a more low-key celebration.  A casual potluck gathering with close friends can take the pressure off everyone and is gentler on the wallet.  That’s why Cabot Creamery Cooperative, best known as “Makers of the World’s Best Cheddar,” is providing two delicious and innovative recipes that are perfect for any New Year’s Eve get-together.

“New Year’s Eve is such a versatile Holiday because there are so many ways to celebrate,” says Candace Karu, Cabot Creamery’s Lifestyle Commentator and Favorite Foodie.  ”Here are a few ideas to help you have a happy, healthy New Year’s Eve:

  • If you’re entertaining and are strapped for time to prepare hors d’oeuvres, a beautifully constructed cheese tray is easy and elegant.  You can offer your guests a variety of cheeses, along with tasty accompaniments: fresh fruit like apples, pears, or grapes and dried fruits like apricots or cranberries pair beautifully with many kinds of cheese, as do nuts like almonds or hazelnuts.  Add a crusty sliced baguette or an assortment of crackers and your ready for the countdown.
  • No matter where you plan to party, it’s always fun to play “Guess the Resolution.”  Have each guest write down his or her resolution and put it in a bowl.  Read each resolution aloud and have everyone guess who might have made it.
  • Will children be part of your New Year’s Eve festivities?  How about planning a special meal that everyone can help prepare?  There are lots of great family-friendly recipes at http://www.cabotcheese.coop/recipes.  Afterward, games like Scrabble or Pictionary or motion-control games like Wii or Kinect can help make it a party everyone will love.
  • Make a playlist for your party and dance the night away or sing along to oldies or Broadway show tunes.
  • If you do decide to go out, celebrate responsibly.  Try to drink a glass of water between each cocktail. You’ll feel better all night and wake up happier, too.  Don’t forget to designate a driver before the party starts.
  • Not everyone’s a night owl.  Don’t feel bad if you want to head off to bed early.  Why not begin the New Year by taking the family for a run, walk or hike?  Gathering at home for a celebratory brunch will add a festive air to the start of 2011.

“If you plan to pot-luck this year, Cabot has you covered with two unique and tasty recipes,” continues Candace.  ”For a new take on a perennial favorite, treat your guests to our savory, sweet and spicy Butternut Squash, Cranberry and Cabot Habanero Cheddar Wontons.   Or, for a more traditional – and extremely delicious – finger food, try our Asparagus-Prosciutto Rolls with Cabot Tomato Basil Cheddar Cheese.  But most important, as you look around the room and see your family and friends enjoying the great food and holiday celebration, remember to count your blessings on the countdown to the New Year.”

Teens in Rare Car Break-Ins Caught

No Comments 29 November 2010

Police have nabbed three teenagers responsible for break-ins of a plethora of cars in Brattleboro – a rarity for the usually crime-free town.

Hinsdale police stopped a car for a routine traffic violation when they learned that the bold kids stole the car from Hillwinds Road, where they did most of their dirty work. Incriminating the audacious kids further were items reported stolen from cars on that same road Saturday morning in their possession.

The troubled teens were taken into custody and turned loose upon their parents. Arrests will most likely be made.

Green Mountain Coffee in Legal Battle

No Comments 02 November 2010

Barrack Rodos & Bacine announces that it has filed a class action lawsuit in the United States District Court for the District of Vermont, Blank v. Green Mountain Coffee Roasters et al., Civil Action No. 2:10-CV-267, on behalf of purchasers of common stock of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. during the period from July 28, 2010 through September 28, 2010 (the “Class Period”).

The complaint charges Green Mountain and its senior executives with violations of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934.  Green Mountain is a leader in the specialty coffee and coffee maker businesses. It sells over 200 whole bean and ground coffee selections, cocoa and teas in the United States and abroad.

The complaint alleges that during the Class Period, defendants issued a series of false and misleading statements based on improper accounting methods used for the company’s financial statements.  After the close of trading on September 28, 2010, defendants filed a Form 8-K that revealed, for the first time, that Green Mountain was the subject of an SEC investigation into its revenue recognition practices.  In the SEC filing, the defendants disclosed that the company had been notified by the SEC of this investigation on September 20, 2010 and that the company believed the focus of the inquiry concerns certain revenue recognition practices and its relationship with one of its vendors.  On this news, the price of Green Mountain’s common stock dropped from a closing price of $37.01 on September 28, 2010, to close at $31.06 on September 29, 2010, a decline of 16%, on heavy trading volume.

Plaintiff seeks to recover damages on behalf of all purchasers of common stock of Green Mountain during the Class Period.  The plaintiff is represented by Barrack Rodos & Bacine, which has significant experience in prosecuting class actions on behalf of investors in cases involving financial and corporate fraud.

If you wish to serve as lead plaintiff, you must move the Court no later than November 29, 2010.  To discuss your rights regarding the appointment of lead plaintiff and for additional information about your interest in this class action, please contact plaintiff’s counsel, Barrack Rodos & Bacine, at the following toll-free number: 877-386-3304, or via e-mail to Jeffrey Gittleman at jgittleman@barrack.com.  A copy of the complaint is available from the Court or from Barrack Rodos & Bacine.

Backup Beepers in Brattleboro Main Street

No Comments 11 July 2010

Tearing up the pavement in downtown Brattleboro isn’t hard work for Lane Construction, but it is noisy! Downtown residents have to put up with the backup beepers.

It should all be over by noon Thursday. The work started near South Main Street, and ends at the Brattleboro Common. As long as the weather holds up, Putney Road gets it’s turn on Friday night.

Two lanes of traffic should be allowed in downtown throughout the day, until 11 p.m., when it is shut down to only one lane and traffic being directed.

No parking is allowed either side of Main Street, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday and all day Thursday. Park Place and Route 30 near to the Common.

I made this song thinking about the spiritual connection that sometimes lacks in our lives…

This song also shows pictures of Brattleboro, Vermont, a place that keeps my heart……

In Marlboro College, my life’s perspective changed..

To all my best friends and the people that I love, with all my heart and the good energy that can come up from my soul…. ;)
