The federal grand jury investigating child pornography charges against Brattleboro resident, David Runnion, the former conductor of the Windham Orchestra, indicted him for receiving and possessing child pornography.
Runnion has been detained pending trial by United States Magistrate Judge John M. Conroy.
Apparently, in 2008, Runnion had email communication with a 15-year-old New Hampshire girl, after meeting on on Craigslist. They corresponded from their home computers and the girl sent sexually explicit photographs of herself.
Those photographs and emails were discovered by law enforcement in Runnion’s Yahoo! email account, and some images were also found saved to his laptop computer.

The Oak Meadow, Brattleboro homeschool program attracts students worlwide. Last week, the Reformer in Brattleboro reported that Oak Meadow high school graduates were celebrating at the West Village Meeting House.
Most of the high school teachers live in New England, although their students are spread across the US and throughout the world, as close as Costa Rica and as far away as Australia. With classes by mail and online, most students only meet their teachers face-to-face at graduation.
The Brattleboro program is often used by actors, sports people and children unable to attend traditional schools.

Brattleboro’s Selectboard is scheduled to hold a special meeting on Monday. Items on the agenda are administration Bee Line Bus Changes and crime and other disturbances on Elliot Street in downtown Brattleboro.
The meeting starts at 7:30 AM at the Municipal Center, in the Hanna Cosman Room.
The meeting continues the board’s discussion of options for reducing crime and nuisance complaints from the Downtown area.
Brattleboro has operated the local two-route bus system for many years, but administrative and reporting requirements have become onerous. This vital service has high ridership and is important to both citizens and The Town. The Board will discuss how to balance maintaining and safeguarding the service, while at the same time handling the administrative overhead and equipment issues.

A year ago, Hans Estrin, a local schoolteacher, frustrated with policies that ignored local produce, quit his teaching job and started a new business to help get more local produce into local diets.
This is a problem all over the US, which causes massive transportation costs to be added to prices. It is about time more people started seeing great stories like this.
